Mail Desk:

Today Friday (April 7, 2023), UPDF Vice President Natun Kumar Chakma called the incident a cold-blooded massacre in a statement to the media and said that a special group of the state in the Chittagong Hill Tracts had staged a drama of 'two-sided gunfire' with the terrorists of the army supporting them was killed 7 people. However, the police reported the recovery of 8 bodies.

In the statement, Natun Kumar Chakma described the incident according to local sources and said that at 6:30 am yesterday, a group of 20-25 armed terrorists belonging to Navyamukosh and reformist JSS entered the Jurvarang village and fired blank bullets and created panic among the residents. Later, the terrorists tied up 22 people of the neighborhood one by one. A class 8 student and some college students were not spared from the terrorists. Locals alleged that the terrorists kicked a 75-year-old man to the ground.

Later, the terrorists took the 22 people at gunpoint to Khamtang neighborhood and imprisoned them in a private primary school there. After that, 15 people were released from there, but the remaining 7 people were shot and killed in cold blood.

The names of 7 victims of murder have been revealed. They are - 1. Bhan Du Bawm, 2. Sang Khum, 3. Sang Phir Thang Bawm, 4. Boy Rem Bawm 5. Jahim Bawm, 6. Lal Lian Ngak Bawm and 7. Lal Tha Jar Bawm. Among them, 6 are residents of Jurvarang village and 1 is said to be resident of Pankhiang neighborhood.

In the statement, he mentioned that the people of the area had left their homes in fear of the incident and took shelter in Rowangchari and Ruma upazila headquarters. He said that the state forces have been conducting "combing operation" in the remote areas of Ruma, Rawangchari and Thanchi upazilas since October last year in the name of suppressing a group named 'KNF'. But not being able to suppress the KNF, various atrocities are being committed on the ordinary Bawm neighborhood residents. Now again armed terrorists are being killed, disappeared and kidnapped. As a result, hundreds of Bam ethnic groups have been forced to seek refuge in various safe havens in Mizoram and Bandarban, India. Even now, ordinary Bawm Para residents are not able to live safely. This has caused a humanitarian disaster in that area.
