Longadu attack

EDITORIAL:

Today is the fourth anniversary of the Longadu Communal  Attack.

On June 2, 2017, Bangladesh Army- Settlers Bangali coordinated attacks on Hill villagers in Langudu Upazila of Rangamati District. There were more than 200 people's homes, shops burnt out by Settlers Bangali. Hill people's fall on vast deprivation. More than 200 hill people's houses, shops were burnt in Tintila, Batta Para, North-South Manikjor Sora & Baradam area by Settlers. Gunabala Chakma, an 80-year-old woman, was burnt to death in the attack.

On June 1, 2017, the dead body of a man named Nurul Islam alias Nayan was found at Four Miles on Khagrachhari-Dighinala Upazila road. He was the secretary of the Juba League in Longadu Sadar Union and used to ride a motorcycle for hire. In ignition of the attack, hill leaders alerted the local Administration and requested increased security. But the Administration didn't' care.  Before the invasion, the local Awami League and Juba League leaders organized a rally with the dead body of Nayan. The rally was attended by local military and civilian officials.  The Langudu Zone Commander himself suggested the gathering.  After the rally, Military and Settlers were attacked on Hill people's.

After the attack was a storm of protests and demonstrations in the country and abroad, including the Chittagong Hill Tracts, the government promised to justice the attack through the local district administration and rebuilt the burnt houses. But the four years after the attack, the trial has not been fair. The Langudu attack was a continuation of previous episodes. In Longadu, on May 4, 1989, a brutal and genocidal operation was carried out by the settlers and the military. That's called "Longadu Genocide."  Again in 2011, there was a coordinated attack on the Hill people by Settlers. None of these incidents have tried today. In this way, attacks and oppression on the Hill people have been going on without justice. Can the government deny these liabilities?
