Cultural showdown of Mro peoples in protest of construction of five star hotel in Chimbuk ,6 November 2020.

Grabbing the lands of the local indigenous peoples for so - called development tourist spots are widely taking place in Bandarban district , in Chittagong Hill Tracts. The local particularly Mro Indigenous people are in fear of mass displacement due to construction works of five- star Hotel and Tourist spots have been initiated by the joint of military and a private business group. Two international organizations - Asia Indigenous People's Pact(AIPP) of Thailand and International Worker's Groups for Indigenous Affairs(IWGIA) of Denmark urged the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs to halt the projects by an open letter. This letter has been sent in the December's of 1st week by email and post. Gam Shimray, the Secretary of "Asia Indigenous People's Pacts signing the letter demanded for 6 points to Bangladesh Government in a press notice. Following the 6 points demand are- 1. Halt building hotel at Chimbbhuk, 2.Must have to take permission from the Mro along with others indigenous for building something, 3.Protect the life-Livelihood and develop of the indigenous people, 4.Stop harassment the Mro leaders and activists, 5.Investigate about the allegation by forming an independent investigation commission, 6.Set up an informative dialogue, declaring a deadlines for implementing the Chittagong Hill Tracts Treaty.

The latter of two organisations is supported by the world's 82 international human rights organisations and 106 eminent people, UN's experts, Human rights activists, Professors, Environmentalists, attorneys and civil society. As a result of receiving process of building five- star hotel in Bandarban, the Mro peoples are becoming victims of displacement. Despite of facing others pressure, the local indigenous people are fighting for claiming rights informed in the letter.
