The 22nd founding anniversary of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) has been celebrated in Chittsgong Hill Tracts with great enthusiasm.

Today, on Saturday, December 26, 2020, various programs were taken on the occasion of the founding anniversary of the UPDF. The program included hoisting of party flags, laying of wreaths at the temporary martyrs' memorial, discussion meetings etc. Besides, banners and festoons with various slogans were hung in different places on the occasion of the founding anniversary.

On the occasion of the founding anniversary, a colorful program was organized in Khagrachhari Sadar area. At this time the venue was decorated with colorful flags.

The slogan``Hundreds of martyrs lit the torch of self-sacrifice``, `` No Full Autonomy, No Rest! Long Live UPDF `` leaders and activists of mass organizations including members of Agrani Shishu-Kishor Kendra, martyrs' families and well-wishers-supporters participated in public programs in different areas at 9 am.

Later, the founding anniversary was formally started by singing the song 'We Shall Over Come' and hoisting the party flag. The flag was hoisted by the sound of band 22 times to commemorate the 22-year resistance struggle of the party.

After 22 years, a wreath was laid at the temporary martyr's altar in memory of those who had been martyred for their courageous role in the bloody struggle for the people.

Aongya Marma, chief organizer of Khagrachhari Sadar Unit, members Sunam Chakma and Vijay Marma were present on behalf of party during the wreath laying ceremony. Jaya Chakma, Tisha Chakma, Arpita Chakma from Agrani Shishu-Kishor Kendra presented wreaths on behalf of Shaheed family . Bipul Chakma, central president of Hill Students Council, Ripon Chakma, central office secretary of Democratic Youth Forum, Niti Chakma, central office secretary of Hill Women's Federation and Rico Dewan, Rekhi Khisa presented wreaths on behalf of Nari Samaj.

The UPDF also celebrated its founding anniversary at various places in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, including Rangamati and Bandarban.


A leading organizer Aongya Marma said, ``It was not easy to go beyond 22 years to realize the rights of the oppressed people of the Chittagong Hill Tracts. The UPDF did not give up despite the brutal repression, arrests, killings, abductions and disappearances of the ruling class. The UPDF ignoring all the conspiracies of the ruling party, the party remaining steadfast in its goal and continues its movement for full autonomy for the liberation of the people.``

The United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) is a superior ‍ political party which demanding full autonomy for the Chittagong Hill Tracts pepoles. On this day in 1998, the UPDF was formed in Dhaka through a party preparatory conference jointly organized by three democratic organizations in the Chittagong Hill Tracts- Hill Students Council, Hill Peoples Council and Hill Women's Federation .
