Staff Reporter:
The United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) has called on the Jana Sanghati Samiti (JSS) to launch movement demanding implementation of the CHT Accords. The party has also announced to provide necessary assistance to the movement.
The call was made in a leaflet issued on the occasion of the 22nd founding anniversary of the UPDF (Message of the UPDF Central Committee to the Staff and the People).
The leaflet says about the CHT Accord, the 'CHT accord' is going to be two eras. The party executing the agreement, the Awami League, has been in power for a continuous period. There is no reason to argue for not implementing the agreement due to lack of time. The fact that Rangamati SP Humayun Kabir's naming of the 'cht accord' as 'Mula' (June 13, 2003) is not a lie has also proved to the Jana Sanghati Samiti. JSS have also been accusing the government of not implementing the agreement for a long time.It should not be forgotten that in addition to the armed resistance, the massive student movement in the nineties accelerated the political solution to the CHT problem, which resulted in the 'CHT Accord'. However, there were doubts in the minds of the people from the very beginning about its terms and nature, the sincerity of the ruling party and above all its implementation. Although the UPDF has been termed as 'anti-agreement', the UPDF has so far not raised any objections to the implementation of the 'agreement'.
The United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) is a superior political party which demanding full autonomy for the Chittagong Hill Tracts pepoles. The UPDF was formed in Dhaka through a party preparatory conference jointly organized by three democratic organizations in the Chittagong Hill Tracts- Hill Students Council, Hill Peoples Council and Hill Women's Federation.
